ARTIST: Derek Lusche, Ashland WI
CHAIR NAME: “ ‘57 Chevy ”
Derek is an amazing young man who grew up in Luck, Wisconsin and started private art lessons at age 11. He studied under Mary Pettis through his early 20’s. His two main mediums are oil painting and whimsical sculpture. Derek has been vision impaired his whole life, and in 2003 was diagnosed with glaucoma and became blind in his left eye after surgery complications. In 2009, Derek had several surgeries on his right eye to save his vision. He now has only 35% vision in his right eye and is still painting and sculpting. His work is inspired by nature, the people around him, his travels and his life’s journey. Derek’s philosophy is: “If your mind can see it, your hands can produce it.” To see more of his work visit www.dereklusche.com.
